p.225 The first pre-requisite of all freedom, according to Babaji, is the purification of the mind, the citadel of the human ego. That is the starting point of all endeavors of social unity and God-realization. Bondage is the fruit of weakness, born of spiritual and moral integration. The way of social regeneration is to restore the individual to his high, enriching, spiritual and moral heritage. Materialism cannot help society or humanity in a situation like this. The root cause of all social injustice and unrest, of all human ill and misery in the world, can be directly traced to faulty life processes, which are the results of wrong mental and psychic adjustments. It is certainly wrong mental and psychic adjustments, which make man think and believe that exploitation, cruelty, war and the law of animal nature in human affairs, is an inevitability or a necessity. He is not altogether ignorant of the existence of a nobler and higher nature within him.
The first and fundamental position of religion is that there must be, a conscious correction of all maladjustments and through the right adjustment, a restoration to body, mind and life of our own Divine Creative processes. That means conscious psychic and mental control. ..
